2012: Prices of Generics Down to 60%

Japanese comic explains generics to general public.

Tokyo, August 2, 2011

From fiscal 2012 prices of generic drugs in Japan will be reduced
uniformly to 60% from current 70% off the prices of their branded
counterparts. The decision is made by the Japanese Health Ministry
(MHLW) in an effort to curb rising costs of medical care. The decision
is expected to spur competition among makers of generics and
will lower co-payment bills for patients and health insurers. All drugs
in Japan have fixed prices assigned by special state
Pricing commission. (NPJ News)
